The Normal Parks and Recreation Department offers a Before and After School Recreation Program throughout the school year. The program is offered to kindergarten through fifth graders, at eight Unit 5 school sites. The schools include: Colene Hoose, Fairview, Glenn, Grove, Oakdale, Parkside, Prairieland and Sugar Creek.
The program provides students with recreational, educational, and social opportunities in a safe environment. Students enjoy playground and gym time, recreation activities, games, crafts, and have the opportunity to work on homework. A light snack is offered during both the Before and After School Programs. The Late Start Program is featured on Unit 5 late start days from 6:45 to 8:30 a.m., Before School Program is run from 6:45 to 7:30 a.m., and the After School Program is run from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program meets in each school sites gym/multi-purpose room.
The Before/After School Program consists of four, 9 week sessions throughout the school year. Registration for the Before/After School Program takes place in April prior to the start of the new school year. Check the activity guide or contact our office for specific details and dates.
A lottery system is used to complete the initial enrollment for the first session each school year. Once a participant is enrolled in the program, he/she is guaranteed a spot for the remaining sessions, as long as the participant is re-registered during the registration deadlines for each 9 week session. A lottery system will again be used for any remaining openings in the program for sessions 2 through 4. New participants must submit forms each session to be a part of the lottery.
If a new participant enters a form for the lottery, but doesn’t get in, he/she will go on a wait list for that session only. If openings become available, the wait list family will be notified.
Please refer to the Activity Guide for specific session registration dates. Registration forms can be dropped off at the Parks & Recreation office, mailed-in, or faxed-in. Online registration is not an option due to lottery enrollment.
