The largest division within the Normal Fire Department is the Suppression Division, which is responsible for fire suppression, basic level medical services, rescue activities, mitigation of disasters and hazardous materials response.
In addition to firefighting services, members provide a wide range of services to the community, including conducting fire station tours and fire and life safety presentations within the community.
The Suppression Division is divided into three shifts, which work for 24-hour periods. Each shift has a Battalion Chief, who operates as the shift commander and manages the day-to-day operations of the working shift. Each of our three fire stations are managed by a lieutenant, who oversees their respective station operations and personnel.
